Wake is usually the first piece people are drawn to in artist Lloyd Matthew Thompson's art shows and festivals.

"That's probably because it is the first painting I did that was fully channeled— I only remember my nose being very close to the canvas, until I realized the entire thing was covered," he said. "Then I stepped back and looked at it as a whole, and said 'Wow. This is so unlike any artwork I've ever done before!'"

The title was chosen as "Wake" because the painting was born during the time of a turning point, an awakening for him.
